Walking around for a whole day without a destination may be the best kind of rest.

Sometimes the best holiday is not about going far away. It is about walking through a familiar city from a different angle.

The pleasure of wandering

No route. No map. Follow your instincts. Turn into an unfamiliar alley, find a quiet café, or let a sunset surprise you at the next corner.

Travel is not only about arriving. It is also about noticing again.

What I do while wandering

  • Put the phone away and look around.
  • Take a few pictures of whatever catches my attention.
  • Write down fragments of conversation I overhear.
  • Try a snack from a roadside stall I have never visited.

By the end of the day my body is tired, but my mind feels full. There is more unnoticed beauty around us than we usually admit.
